Devoting Ourselves To Prayer And Sharing The Good News

Dear Friends,

I will be away with my family for the next 2 Sundays. You are in the capable hands of Rev. Ken and Deacon Anthony this Sunday. Please remember it’s Communion Sunday. Those on-line can also take part by setting aside some juice and bread and following along with the in-person service that is livestreamed.

Coming together is important as we enter this season of prayer. Please consider joining the inter-church Ash Wednesday service and use resources available to guide you in a time of prayer. We are doing this as a church—prayerfully giving time to listen to God. We are doing this in different ways: Cantonese congregation has a 30-day reading of Nehemiah; Mandarin ministry has a 40-day plan reading through Exodus. These and other ministry plans are outlined in the Annual Report so pick up a copy if you don’t have one.

Drawing upon the wealth of resources available in English, I recommend:

“Anatomy of the Soul” a reading of Psalms. This is an older resource but in reading it the past two weeks, I find it very suitable for reflection. Link

If you want a current (2025) devotional, you can pick up a physical copy or download the Lenten Devotional for this year provided by a group of Lutheran chaplains.

You may want to instead subscribe to a devotional guide that comes to you by e-mail or social media. I recommend the CBN (printers of Daily Bread) resource because of their long history of producing good spiritual resources: CBN Lent email devotional

Maybe this is new to you. Eddie Chee gave us the reason why Baptist’s bypass the Lenten season altogether. In this era of the Christian church there is a growing movement of working alongside one another to encourage Christian growth and evangelism. We can learn from each other without giving up our distinctives.

May the Lord lead you, your family and your fellowship into deeper communion with Jesus and the church family.

Blessings,

Rev. Nolan
