6 Weeks Left Of Winter

Hey Friends,

Yes, its Groundhog Day. This is one of those hokey American traditions that somehow endured until today. There is an older tradition of villages that would celebrate this day in church and to ask around to see how everyone was getting along. Winter was a hard time for everyone and sometimes people’s provisions were not enough to get them through until planting season. That when the villagers would come together and see who had enough to share with those who were in need. That’s a tradition worth remembering.

I dropped off several boxes of food donations to Yonge Street Mission last week. They were very happy to receive these items because there is a lot of need out there. Our Children’s Sunday School has set out a goal for their food collection and as a church we will keep on collecting food for the rest of the month.

We have some special events coming up that are open to family and friends:

Sunday Feb. 11 “Super Hotpot Sunday”

Time: 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Location: Main Building. Sanctuary

This is Chinese New Years weekend combined with a rematch between AFC and NFC conference champions.

Point of interest: the last time we had a Superbowl dinner at the church it was these two teams facing off.

Food will be a mix of traditional hot pot (you cook over our stoves) and the usual game time fare.

Monday Feb. 19 “Free Skate for Family and Friends”

Skating: 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Location: Mattamy Athletic Centre, 50 Carleton St.

We’ve booked the ice rink and invite those to come for an open skate on Family Day.

Dinner: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm after skating at a nearby community room. Ask Rev Nolan for directions if you are interested in attending.

Saturday Feb. 17 Volleyball Returns as a weekly event!

Weekly on Saturdays (with one Saturday per month dedicated to basketball)

Time: 10:30am to 12:30pm

Location: Leaside High School, 200 Hanna Rd, East York, ON M4G 3N8

Register is required. Please contact Tim Chu to receive the information for registration.

Coming together as a church is the most important thing for our spiritual life so please take time to attend on Sundays and learn from the Bible. Catch our Sunday service on-line if you can’t make it to our worship service. Pass on the word to your family and friends if you think the messages and our community is what they need.

In Christ,

Pastor Nolan
