Summer Is Around The Corner
Hey Friends,
To all those who joined us on-line and in-person for our baptism service last Sunday—thank you. It was a great encouragement for our young members Michael Peng, Andrew Song and Shannon Lee.
As a follow up to the baptism, I will be leading a discipleship course over the next 8 weeks called Discipleship NOW. We will read through Philippians and have conversations about what discipleship means to us today. Based on the series Discipleship Explored, this course is for those new to the Christian faith and those who want to return to the basics. It will be held in the Youth Room in 76 Beverley St. first floor.
This Sunday we have Rev. Calvin Lam, former pastor of worship (and now consulting pastor) for Richmond Hill Chinese Community Church. Preaching from Psalm 150, he will give us an overview of worship according to biblical teaching. He’s also teaching in the Cantonese service (so you can come later if you prefer to hear him in Cantonese!) One of our hopes at TCBC is to see a revitalization of our worship life and that begins with opening our hearts and minds to what true worship is.
Our main Sunday class takes place in the basement and is for all ages and all stages of life. This course “Growth and Renewal: to be like Jesus” equips and challenges us as Christians to keep “pressing on towards the goal” in knowing Jesus and experiencing the Christian life to it’s fullest. It’s meant to help us in all our relationships and to help us reframe our struggles as challenges to live a more authentic life. This class starts at 11:30am in the church basement and will move to the 1st floor once the 2nd floor renovations have taken place.
Sunday afternoon sports will continue throughout the summer. Our June schedule is:
June 11 Badminton
June 18 Volleyball
June 25 Basketball
For me personally, this week is when I attend our denomination’s (Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec) annual assembly. This is a time for us as pastors and church leaders to see the spiritual landscape of the land, reflect on our calling as churches, exchange ministry ideas & stories, and pray for our future direction. Pray for me as I join with my fellow CBOQ pastors for a few days of equipping.
Blessings,
Pastor Nolan
